fun and relaxing way to enjoy the company of a church group, a girls night out, or a
party for a group of youngsters? We can help! We have talented instructors with a
wide range of skills - give us a call and we’ll match your needs with a qualified
instructor. We provide materials, and you bring anything to make the class more
enjoyable - snacks, wine, music - or just yourselves! Feel free to request a specific
artist.

Create your own Artistic Experience
Soft Pastel Workshop Series with Sheila Passenier
Develop your skill in the chalk-like medium of soft pastels in this series of hands-on
workshops for beginner through intermediate artists.
Trees, Water, Sky: Learn how to draw basic natural elements with soft pastels, then
put them together in simple landscapes.
Tuesdays, Feb 7-21 (3 sessions), 6-8 p.m. Class fee: $30; Materials: $6 (or bring your
own)
Landscapes: Build on your basic knowledge of soft pastels by creating a series of
complete Michigan landscapes.
Tuesdays, March 6-20 (3 sessions), 6-8 p.m. Class fee: $30; Materials: $6 (or bring your
own)
Portraits: Learn how to interpret the colors and shapes in a photographic portrait
and translate them into the medium of soft pastels.
Tuesdays, April 10-24 (3 sessions), 6-9 p.m. Class fee: $45; Materials: $6 (or bring your

Continuing Pastels: Delve deeper into landscapes or portraits in this independent
study-type class that provides plenty of one-on-one guidance from the instructor.

Creating Fine Art with Colored Pencils with Linda Busse
Expand your basic drawing skills by venturing into the world of colored pencils.
Learn new pencil strokes and practice color blending techniques to yield detailed,
vibrant drawings. Open to all skill levels.

Oil Painting Basics with Jessica Vela
Get acquainted with the world of oil painting through demonstrations, painting
exercises and hands-on oil painting practice, resulting in a final masterpiece of your
own. Students should have basic drawing skills before enrolling in this class.
Thursdays, February 9-March 8 (5 sessions), 6-9 p.m. Class fee: $60; Materials: $45

Beginning Ukulele with Chester Winowiecki
Ages 10-Adult: You don’t have to know anything about music to have a great time
with a ukulele! Students will learn the basics of holding, tuning, and caring for their
ukulele, as well as a number of chords that can be used to play hundreds of songs, old
and new. Having your own ukulele is strongly recommended. For those who cannot
provide their own, a limited number of ukuleles are available for loan, thanks to the
generous support of the Spread the Music Foundation.

Intermediate Ukulele with Chester Winowiecki
Ages 10-Adult: For those who have taken a ukulele class in the recent past or have
some experience playing the ukulele. We'll spend a brief time reviewing beginner
chords and songs before moving right into the good stuff—lots of new songs and
chords with tips on playing, practicing and performing. Students are encouraged to
bring favorite songs to share with the class.

Intermediate Drawing I and II with Rebecca Todd
Further develop your right-brain drawing techniques in this series of classes with
Rebecca Todd. Intermediate Drawing I will hone your ability to interpret
perspective and proportion, while Intermediate Drawing II delves into figure
drawing using live models.
Intermediate Drawing I: Wednesdays, March 7-28 (4 sessions), 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Intermediate Drawing II: Wednesdays, April 11-May 2 (4 sessions), 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Class fee: $38 (one class) or $70 (both classes); Materials: $2 (or bring your own).

Beading on a Loom with Linda Busse
Ages 10-Adult: Learn how to make bracelets, belts, and more with the Native
American bead loom technique. Use one of our looms or bring your own (available in
craft stores, or easy to make at home).

Touching up Images with Picasa 3.9 with Paul Petersen
Learn professional tips for improving digital photographs without investing in pricey
photo-editing software. Picasa is a free program that lets you sharpen focus,
straighten horizons, retouch blemishes and apply special effects to your digital
images. Students should bring a laptop with Picasa 3.9 installed (free download at
picasa.google.com).
Tuesdays, March 13-20 (2 sessions), 7-9 p.m. Class fee: $25

Painting Sampler with Cat Johnson and Pauline Stitt
Starting with a crash course in painting fundamentals—drawing, composition, and
color—this class gives students a chance to practice with three different painting
mediums to find out which they like best! Students will leave each of the final three
classes with a finished acrylic, watercolor, or oil painting of their own.
Thursdays, March 22 and 29, April 19 and 26 (4 sessions), 6-9 pm. Class fee: $75;
Materials fee: $20.

Intermediate Photography with Paul Petersen
Gain creative freedom by switching your SLR camera off the automatic settings. By
the end of this class, students will be proficient in using the manual settings of their
camera to capture the desired look and feel for photographs in any situation.
Tuesdays, April 3-May 8 (6 sessions), 7-9 p.m. Class fee: $75

Papermaking with Sarah Jane Fellini
Ages 5-Adult (students 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult): Blend up a
batch of elegant handmade paper suitable for card making, gift giving, or special art
projects. Students will learn basic paper making technique, then try out several
“recipes” of their own choosing!

The Allure of Silver: Beginning Silver Clay with Cristine Grimm
Craft your own silver jewelry using a special clay that transforms into 99.9% pure
silver when fired. Certified silver clay instructor Cristine Grimm will take you step by
step through the process. Students will leave class wearing a fine silver pendent of
their own creation!
Thursday, May 10, 6-9 p.m. Workshop fee: $55 (includes all materials)

High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography with Paul Petersen
High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography generates amazingly vibrant, highly
detailed images by capturing more information on the brightness levels in a scene
than a camera’s sensor can detect in a single exposure. In this class students will
learn how to capture HDR images, which software to use, and some hints to make the
process easy!
Tuesday, May 15, 7-9 p.m. Class fee: $15

Intermediate Watercolor Workshop with Pat Miller
Move beyond the basics in this intensive one-day workshop. Intermediate students
will complete two paintings—a landscape and a floral—receiving personalized
instruction under the skilled guidance of watercolorist Pat Miller. Students provide
their own materials.
Saturday, May 19, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (1 hour break for lunch). Workshop fee: $40.

Art Doll Workshop with Nancy Reigh Johnson
Learn to make an art doll from fabric and whimsical trimmings. Class open to
beginners with some sewing machine skills. Bring own machine, pins and scissors if
possible. Patterns and other supplies provided.
Saturday, June 2, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (1 hour break for lunch). Workshop fee: $40;
Materials: $10.
