Children’s Painting and Drawing with Katrina Vogler (Ages 8-12+)
In this structured course, students will explore the world of drawing and expand
these skills during painting lessons. Students will learn color mixing, highlighting,
brushstroke techniques, and basic perspective, leaving each class with a completed
work of art.
Mondays, February 6-27 (4 sessions), 4:30-5:30 p.m. Class fee: $25 (siblings $22 each);

FREE Valentine’s Day Crafts  —  Saturday, February 11
All Ages: Drop by the Nuveen Center for a frenzy of hearts, glitter, and candy! Kids of
all ages can choose from a variety of fun crafts to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Parents
will receive a coupon for 50% off an espresso bar drink from the Book Nook & Java
Shop to enjoy while the kids are crafting.

Clay for Kids with Cara O’Brien                                  (Ages 8-12+)
Use hand-building and simple tools to explore texture, relief and other clay sculpting
techniques while completing three kiln-fired projects. Experiment with glazing in
the final class! Limit 10 students.

Beginning Ukulele with Chester Winowiecki       (Ages 10-Adult)
You don’t have to know anything about music to have a great time with a ukulele!
Students will learn the basics of holding, tuning, and caring for their ukulele, as well
as a number of chords that can be used to play hundreds of songs, old and new.
Having your own ukulele is strongly recommended. For those who cannot provide
their own, a limited number of ukuleles are available for loan, thanks to the generous
support of the Spread the Music Foundation.
Mondays, February 13-March 5 (4 sessions), 6:00-7:00 p.m. Class fee: FREE

Intermediate Ukulele with Chester Winowiecki   (Ages 10-Adult)
For those who have taken a ukulele class in the recent past or have some experience
playing the ukulele. We'll spend a brief time reviewing beginner chords and songs
before moving right into the good stuff—lots of new songs and chords with tips on
playing, practicing and performing. Students are encouraged to bring favorite songs
to share with the class.

Exploring Pastels with Sarah Jane Fellini                 (Ages 7-12+)
Expand your child’s world of art experiences by introducing them to pastels.
Students will experiment with both soft pastels and oil pastels, along with learning
how to combine pastels with painting, drawing, and other familiar mediums.
Thursdays, March 8-29 (4 sessions), 4:30-5:30 p.m. Class fee: $25 (siblings $22 each);
Materials: $5

Beading on a Loom with Linda Busse                  (Ages 10-Adult)
Learn how to make bracelets, belts, and more with the Native American bead loom
technique. Use one of our looms or bring your own (available in craft stores, or easy
to make at home).
Children 10-13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Mondays, March 12-26 (3 sessions), 6:00-7:00 p.m. Class fee: $20 (siblings or
parent/child $17 each); Materials: $6.

Spring Break Art Camp (sponsored by Seaver's Lawn Service)
Grades K-8: Prevent cabin fever! The Nuveen Center provides four mornings of fun,
creative art activities to enrich your child’s school break. Students will be grouped
with kids of similar age. Monday-Thursday, April 2-5, 10:00-11:30 a.m., $20/student.
Thanks to Seaver's Lawn Service for sponsoring Spring Break Art Camp and helping
us keep costs affordable for students!

Spring Break Performing Arts Workshop
Grades 3-12: Participate in many aspects of theatre performance, from drama and
dance to lighting, set design, audition skills and more! Each subject will be taught
by a specialist in that field for a well rounded performing arts experience. Class held
at the Howmet Playhouse. Monday-Thursday, April 2-5.
Grades 3-5: 12-2 p.m., $25;
Grades 6-12: 2-5 p.m., $35.

Theatre Basics for Kids with Katie Trzaska              (Grades 1-3)
Learn what it takes to be an actor in this class with Howmet Playhouse manager
Katie Trzaska. Practice basic physical acting and emotions, stage directions, and
simple line memorization, as well as learning important theatre vocabulary... Katie
makes it fun! Students will perform a short skit for parents on the final night of class.
Mondays, April 9-30 (4 sessions), 6:00-7:00 p.m. Class fee: $25.

Nuveen Youth Theatre Workshop with Alice Gambel & Friends
Grades 6-12: Gain in-depth acting and theatre production experience while preparing
a musical to be presented at Howmet Playhouse of June 14-16. Audition for the 2012
Nuveen Youth Theatre Workshop by attending
one two-hour audition session at the
Howmet Playhouse,
April 10 or 11 at 4-6 p.m. or 7-9 p.m. Come prepared with a
completed application form, available on this page in April. Rehearsals will be
scheduled following auditions based on the information provided in the application.
Class fee (upon acceptance): $60
Note: The Nuveen Youth Theatre Workshop auditions are being held together with the
White Lake Youth Theatre (Howmet Playhouse) summer production audtions. Choose to
audition for one or both by filling out the appropriate parts of the application form (available
on this page in April).

Enviro-Art with Alyssa Merten                                  (Ages 6-12+)
Use sculpture, collage, printmaking, and more for these projects that will help you
and your family save energy, conserve water, and reduce pollution in the
environment.
Tuesdays, April 10-24 (3 sessions), 4:30-5:45 p.m. Class fee: $15 (siblings $12 each);

Papermaking with Sarah Jane Fellini                   (Ages 5-Adult)
Blend up a batch of elegant handmade paper suitable for card making, gift giving, or
special art projects. Students will learn basic paper making technique, then try out
several “recipes” of their own choosing! Students 10 and under must be accompanied
by an adult.
