WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR CHANGE OF
SEASONS JURIED ART EXHIBITION

February 23, 2010.  In its ninth year, the Change of Seasons Juried Exhibit draws
talented youth and adult artists from throughout West Michigan.  From March 2
through April 3, accepted adult entries will be exhibited at the White River Gallery, and
youth entries will be showcased at the Nuveen Community Center for the Arts.

Dr. Joseph A. Ferguson, DDS sponsored the 2010 juror for the adult and youth divisions,
watercolorist Sandy Meyer.  Her watercolor techniques have been featured in numerous
art publications, and she has conducted classes and workshops throughout the Midwest
since 1980. Sandy was an Elementary Art Educator for schools in the Quincy and
Hamilton Illinois School Districts, 1990-2004. She has conducted watercolor and
drawing classes for several art organizations and colleges, and has been a judge for
several fine art exhibits and competitions over the past 15 years.

A public opening reception for the exhibition is set for Saturday, March 6, from 1-3 p.m.
with Ms. Meyer’s juror’s statement at 1:30 p.m.  An awards presentation will also take
place at this time to recognize the artistic achievements of those selected as this year’s
prize winners.

Adult Division Award Winners: The $300 First Place Award is sponsored by the White
Lake Family Dentristy, Elias Achey MDM and Jared VanIttersum, DDS, as well as by
Carl and Mary Luther, and went to Tim Norris for his mixed media piece, Portland
Anvil.  The $200 Second Place Award sponsored by Dr. Shunta, Co-optical Eyecare, Dr.
Alan Bergmans, DDS, and Michael A. Poland, CFA at Rehmann Financial and was given
to Bette DelVecchio for her clay piece, Mother’s Milk, and Judy Stojak of Raymond
James and Associates sponsored the $100 Third place award which was awarded to Anna
Wes for her photograph, Bay Cliff Table Setting.  A $100 Arts Council of White Lake
award and two honorable mentions were also awarded.

For the youth division: Janet Thomas of Reddy, Thomas, and Associates, PLC sponsored
all first place awards ($50 to each winner), Shelby State Bank sponsored all second place
awards ($25 to each winner), and Judy Stojak of Raymond James and Associates
sponsored all third place awards ($15 to each winner).  In the Kindergarten – second
grade category, first place went to Olivia Johnston for her charcoal piece 3 Apples in a
Bowl, second went to Kate Conkright, third to Claire Meacham, and an honorable
mention to Henry Bailey.  In the third-fifth grade category, first place went to Noelle
Seward for her colored pencil drawing, Playful Panda.  Second place went to Evelyn
Rose Mackey, third to Joseph Llano, and an honorable mention to William Kidder.  In
the sixth – eight grade category, first place went to Abby Olsen for her chalk drawing
Furry Friends.  Second place went to Abby Keessen, third to Jackie Seward, and an
honorable mention to Kyle Flannery.  In the ninth – twelfth grade category, the first
place award is given in memory of Amber Brown.  The winner for first place is Caroline
Bonin for her untitled colored pencil drawing.  Second went to Hannah Knash, third to
Chelsea Kirksey and Emily Dennis, and an honorable mention to Forrest Hanson.  The
Arts Council of White Lake award went to fifth grader Alex Baker for his watercolor
pencil drawing, Parrot.  

The Nuveen Community Center for the Arts is open Tuesday – Friday, 12 – 5 p.m. and
Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The White River Gallery is open Tuesday – Friday, 10:30 – 5:
30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.  The galleries are located

The exhibit features photographs, paintings, and video documentary from Sally and
Jon Whitebeck’s four year sailing trip around the globe.  This incredible exhibit is
back at Nuveen by popular demand!  April 6-29, meet the intrepid travelers at the
reception Friday, April 16 from 5-7 p.m.
